| Game Summary (Larry Smith, NetFL Press) The football gods smiled down upon the BB franchise this weekend. A wounded team was provided the perfect elixir, HVC, at an opportune time.
Because, if it had been anyone else but the offensively challenged HVC, every BB player would be changing their ring tones to Taps this morning. Luckily, BB ran into an opponent with much less margin for error than themselves, or they'd no doubt be nursing the losing column with yet another embarrassing loss.
One big reason that BB can exhale today is that HVC was talent-deficient enough to lose control of a game they had a chance to win. They looked so wanting as they pushed the leftover turkey during the game and set fire to my neighbor's gaudy yard art - metaphorically speaking.
The score of 54-33 in front of a despondent home crowd for BB was aided by a ferocious defense, but even larger was the help provided by a reeling opponent that constantly pushed the wrong personnel buttons. No wonder the wanting HVC have been such a welcome sight in opposing stadiums for so long. BB sure caught them on the right day.
It's doubtful that the BB defenders could have corralled a grandmother strolling across the field with the same ease as they did the HVC quarterback. "Instead of him looking down the field, he was looking to see who was coming," said Joey Porter with 13 points on defense, a huge smile on his face. "Let's just say he got rattled a little bit."
Still, BB might not have escaped without a goto player to energize the offense - HVC's very own Marcus Coleman. He was relentlessly victimized, continuously torched play after play before the HVC coaching staff mercifully pulled him, as he kinda languished a bit out there.
"Picking on Marcus Coleman was a part of the game plan," Jason Witten with 34 points on offense said. "We should have been doing it more in the first half of the game."
How true. When a NetFL team needs a pick-me-up, they can usually count on HVC to deliver. BB trails the all-time series 3-5 against HVC. BB has a 8-4 regular season record (1-1 in this year's playoffs). HVC has a 5-7 regular season record.
Though the game was already decided on the field, apparently neither team was done. Aaron Cook exclaimed, "They stink, not in that 'festering sewage inside a porta-potty next to a dead, bloated cow floating in a culvert' way, but more in the 'the Vienna Boy's Choir has more football talent' way." In response, the HVC coach noted, "Sheesh... just mentioning their scaly hides makes me feel very unclean. They're wretched, infantile little sewer rats and I don't want to get dragged into a discussion about them. Any other questions? I need to bathe." |
