| Game Summary (Ralph Jones, NetFL Press) I love football. The stale smell of rancid beer, the sweaty crowd of rabid fans, the cross-eyed and homely cheerleaders trying to incite us to collective ear-drum rupturing noise, the reverberating sound of vicious collisions, the poetic beauty of a laser-guided bullet pass crashing into the receiver's outstretched hands - yes, this is what I live for. This is what I saw today. Kudos to AW for pulling out a pickle, whipping them and definitively putting on the superior show, but overall, it was quite a frenetic, enjoyable game.
And so now it stands that AW is all knotted up in the all-time series 12-12 against AR. AW has a 8-4 regular season record (2-0 in this year's playoffs) having just won the Division Championship game. AR has a 8-4 regular season record (0-1 in this year's playoffs) having just lost the Division Championship game. The latest (what I shall laughingly call a) contest saw AW bludgeoning AR like a mink that suddenly finds that a family of mice has taken up residence in her den 76-70 in front of a despondent home crowd.
They were almost perfect on the AW squad particularly on the offensive side of the ball last week as they racked up a combined 375 points, 270 on offense and 105 on defense. Drew Brees with 51 points on offense and Ernie Sims with 16 points on defense were the top scorers. Mistakes dampened the mood around the locker room somewhat. Said Coach/GM Tim Shoemaker, "We had a few breakdowns. . For one, Josh Bidwell was as sharp as a sponge today. Doc says that he secretes some sort of viscous slime from his arms when he gets hot. This in turn makes the ball, his uniform, his hands, whatever - kinda slick. If you look at many of his 3789 miscues over the year, you can see that often times, nobody even touches him and he falls down, the ball slips out of his hands, or he misfires on a play. As for those OST? They were utterly incompetent, gaining 2 Punt return, 7 Punt return yardage, 3.5 Punt return average, 6 Longest punt return, 3 Kickoff returns, 49 Kickoff return yardage, 16.3 Kickoff return average throughout the course of their pitiful performance. Overall though, the as voted on by his teammates, the most worthless player in this game was Corey Williams. His bad effort yielded precious little to praise.
"Dem's fightin' woids!": Fuel was added to the fire during the two teams' post game news conferences. Tim Shoemaker shot, "He's beaten us a few times, but then again, he had to sell his soul to do so... a shrivelled-up, nasty little shell of a thing to begin with. No moral fiber at all, that one." In response, the AR coach considered this when he said, "He's beaten us a few times, but then again, he had to sell his soul to do so... a shrivelled-up, nasty little shell of a thing to begin with. No moral fiber at all, that one." |
