| Game Summary (Ralph Jones, NetFL Press) I love football. The stale smell of rancid beer, the sweaty crowd of rabid fans, the cross-eyed and homely cheerleaders trying to incite us to collective ear-drum rupturing noise, the reverberating sound of vicious collisions, the poetic beauty of a laser-guided bullet pass crashing into the receiver's outstretched hands - yes, this is what I live for. This is what I saw today. Kudos to WLR for pulling out our last jar of dried beef, maiming their egos and definitively putting on the superior show, but overall, it was quite a frenetic, enjoyable game.
And so now it stands that WLR leads the all-time series 9-4 against SC. WLR has a 1-0 regular season record. SC has a 0-1 regular season record. The latest (what I shall laughingly call a) contest saw WLR has feasted upon SC as though they were naught but a group of frenchmen on the battlefield 38-0 in front of a jeering and hostile crowd.
They looked unstoppable on the WLR squad particularly on the defensive side of the ball last week as they racked up a combined 323 points, 152 on offense and 171 on defense. Le'Ron McClain with 31 points on offense and James Harrison with 22 points on defense were the top scorers. Things were not all roses, however. Said Coach/GM Joe Rupp, "We had a few breakdowns. . For one, Asante Samuel was clearly showing some ill-effects from his intestinal parasite. His bones are made of flubber, so I don't think that's the problem. At least I wouldn't call that a break per se. Still, he's too much of a little baby to play with that little bruise. Broken vertabrae? I doubt that very much. It's clear who is here just to collect a check and frankly, I won't forget it. As for those OST? They showed their ineptitude by amassing 6 Punt return, 40 Punt return yardage, 6.6667 Punt return average, 4 Kickoff returns, 84 Kickoff return yardage, 21 Kickoff return average while taking the day off. Overall though, the as voted on by his teammates, the most worthless player in this game was Eric Ghiaciuc. His bad effort yielded nothing but the scorn of his teammates.
"Dem's fightin' woids!": Fuel was added to the fire during the two teams' post game news conferences. Joe Rupp groaned, "Oh, they're harmless... a bit annoying too, I guess... Kinda remind me of Barney or Big Bird..." In response, the SC coach blathered, "Who? I didn't realize they were still in the league." |
