| Game Summary (Larry Smith, NetFL Press) The football gods smiled down upon the TB franchise this weekend. A wounded team was provided the perfect elixir, KIR, at an opportune time.
Because, if it had been anyone else but the offensively challenged KIR, every TB player would be changing their ring tones to Taps this morning. Luckily, TB ran into an opponent with much less margin for error than themselves, or they'd no doubt be nursing the losing column with yet another embarrassing loss.
One big reason that TB can exhale today is that KIR was talent-deficient enough to lose control of a game they had a chance to win. They looked so incompetent as they pushed the family shotgun during the game and convinced my cousin to join the circus - metaphorically speaking.
The score of 17-0 in front of a despondent home crowd for TB was aided by a ferocious defense, but even larger was the help provided by a reeling opponent that constantly pushed the wrong personnel buttons. No wonder the incompetent KIR have been such a welcome sight in opposing stadiums for so long. TB sure caught them on the right day.
It's doubtful that the TB defenders could have corralled a grandmother strolling across the field with the same ease as they did the KIR quarterback. "Instead of him looking down the field, he was looking to see who was coming," said Donnie Jones with 19 points on defense, a huge smile on his face. "Let's just say he got rattled a little bit."
Still, TB might not have escaped without a goto player to energize the offense - KIR's very own Matt Schaub. He was relentlessly victimized, continuously torched play after play before the KIR coaching staff mercifully pulled him, as he was clearly showing some ill-effects from his intestinal parasite.
"Picking on Matt Schaub was a part of the game plan," Maurice Jones-Drew with 30 points on offense said. "We should have been doing it more in the first half of the game."
How true. When a NetFL team needs a pick-me-up, they can usually count on KIR to deliver. TB leads the all-time series 1-0 against KIR. TB has a 3-0 regular season record. KIR has a 0-3 regular season record.
"Dem's fightin' woids!": Fuel was added to the fire during the two teams' post game news conferences. Tim Marshall grumbled, "Let's see... something nice to say? Well, they're not the most repugnant team out there, but that's kinda like saying that Shockey isn't as annoying as that Owens clown." In response, the KIR coach blathered, "Sheesh... just mentioning their scaly hides makes me feel very unclean. They're wretched, infantile little sewer rats and I don't want to get dragged into a discussion about them. Any other questions? I need to bathe." |
