| Game Summary (Earl Schmidt, NetFL Press) I get paid very well doing something I usually enjoy. There are, however, occasional games that I only report on under silent protest. Let me begin by being brutally honest. SP is quite the repugnant team, wholly outclassed in all aspects of the game by HVC. Yikes! SP has just completed a game in which they, proverbially speaking, set fire to my neighbor's gaudy yard art. To point fingers after this debacle would be unfair given that this most assuredly was a team effort - and that's the only positive spin I can put on the game.
Charlie Whitehurst exclaimed, "Our defense was stout - I mean, golly. Have you ever seen such an effort? I mean, except for those breakdowns that led to all those scores. For at least half of the plays, we were great though. It's something to build on is all I'm getting at."
Brandon Tate stated, 'There's really no way that you can shut them down.We had to resort to some... dubious tactics to stay in the game at all. You don't want to see anyone get hurt seriously, but this defense of ours is different. We're coming to hit, we're coming to hurt. When we get the chance to deliver the punch, we are going to try to knock people out... now if only our opponents occasionally noticed, eh?"
HVC overwhelming SP as though the unfortunate loser were a snail dropped in a jar of saline solution, crushing them by the tune of 50-40 in front of a despondent home crowd. HVC leads the all-time series 10-4 against SP. HVC has a 1-4 regular season record. SP has a 2-3 regular season record. Things went very well for the HVC squad particularly on the offensive side of the ball last week as they racked up a combined 280 points, 179 on offense and 101 on defense. Branden Oliver with 37 points on offense and Morgan Burnett with 16 points on defense were the top scorers. Several mental breakdowns drew the coach's ire. Said Coach/GM Joe Rupp, "There were some mental breakdowns on both sides of the ball.. For one, David Molk performed like a spasmodic violinist. Doc says that he's gotten much better since he's started the electroshock therapy... something about frontal lobes and things with molecular structures. It all sounded very clinical to me, but as long as it keeps him on the field, I'm all for it. As for those OST? They showed all the football grace of ballerinas as they filled the record book with 3 Punt return, 12 Punt return yardage, 4 Punt return average, 1 Kickoff returns, 16 Kickoff return yardage, 16 Kickoff return average throughout the course of their pitiful performance. Overall though, the team goat in this game was Mark Sanchez.
"Dem's fightin' woids!": Fuel was added to the fire during the two teams' post game news conferences. Joe Rupp considered this when he said, "Every neighborhood has the story about that crazy old man who chases the neighborhood children off his property with a rake... pretty harmless and a bit pitiable... kinda reminds me of our erstwhile opponents there." In response, the SP coach noted, "Who? I didn't realize they were still in the league." |
