| Game Summary (Larry Smith, NetFL Press) The football gods smiled down upon the RNR franchise this weekend. A wounded team was provided the perfect elixir, MHD, at an opportune time.
Because, if it had been anyone else but the offensively challenged MHD, every RNR player would be changing their ring tones to Taps this morning. Luckily, RNR ran into an opponent with much less margin for error than themselves, or they'd no doubt be nursing the losing column with yet another embarrassing loss.
One big reason that RNR can exhale today is that MHD was talent-deficient enough to lose control of a game they had a chance to win. They looked so repugnant as they ordered our self-help electroshock therapy kit during the game and blew up my neighbor's yard gnomes - metaphorically speaking.
The score of 48-47 in front of a jeering and hostile crowd for RNR was aided by a ferocious defense, but even larger was the help provided by a reeling opponent that constantly pushed the wrong personnel buttons. No wonder the repugnant MHD have been such a welcome sight in opposing stadiums for so long. RNR sure caught them on the right day.
It's doubtful that the RNR defenders could have corralled a grandmother strolling across the field with the same ease as they did the MHD quarterback. "Instead of him looking down the field, he was looking to see who was coming," said James Laurinaitis with 15 points on defense, a huge smile on his face. "Let's just say he got rattled a little bit."
Still, RNR might not have escaped without a goto player to energize the offense - MHD's very own Tarvaris Jackson. He was relentlessly victimized, continuously torched play after play before the MHD coaching staff mercifully pulled him, as he played about as well as a frog pithed by an epileptic first-grader.
"Picking on Tarvaris Jackson was a part of the game plan," Andy Dalton with 48 points on offense said. "We should have been doing it more in the first half of the game."
How true. When a NetFL team needs a pick-me-up, they can usually count on MHD to deliver. RNR leads the all-time series 3-0 against MHD. RNR has a 2-4 regular season record. MHD has a 3-3 regular season record.
There's no love lost between these two clubs. Randy grumbled, "I suppose every league needs a doormat. I feel some degree of scorn for them to be sure, but mostly, I just shake my head and watch them bumble their way from game to game with a sense of detached amusement." In response, the MHD coach exclaimed, "Gosh... why are you even wasting my time looking for a comment about them? They're kinda like cockroaches - to be sure, they occasionally crawl out of the woodwork to be seen by all, but usually, they're lurking somewhere out of sight." |
